Our Mission

Musical Director Jon Goldberg lives in Berryville, Virginia.

The MSCO – bringing the transformative power of classical music to our communities.

The Main Street Chamber Orchestra was founded to make classical music a relevant part of life for everyone in our community.  Our name is intended to reflect that we are rooted in the community and our desire is to make great music a part of our communal lives.

In addition to our Master Works concerts, each season will feature at least one free Family Concert designed to attract and expose younger audiences to classical music. We will also explore other means to grow the relevance of this music through community involvement, participation in musical offerings at public schools in the community, and lectures and special events for young people and their families.

As an emerging organization we are dependent on your continuing financial support; but we are also seeking direct input of ideas. We want this to be your orchestra, and we welcome your involvement.

MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to serve the public in our region of the Shenandoah Valley through our musical performances and community outreach, giving adults and young people the opportunity to experience great classical music played by professional musicians.

VISION STATEMENT
In fulfilling the mission of MSCO, we offer three or four concerts a year, including one major symphonic work and one program specifically for families with children. We want to enhance appreciation of classical music in young people, and all young people up to the age of 18 are admitted free to all concerts. Also, when performing at a local school, we invite students to attend rehearsals and share in a discussion of music being performed.

Music, because of its specific and far-reaching metaphorical powers, can name the unnamable and communicate the unknowable.
